Stress levels are high, the semester is almost over, and graduation is here for some. There is so much to get done before finals. Assuming that I pass all of my current classes, I will be graduating this semester. I will be looking for a job and working as a waiter until I find one. New media is being created all the time, and the current forms need to be recorded for the future. DVD's are a good example of how new media is currently expressed to the general public. DVD's can be played on computers and on televisions with a DVD player. I think pop-up ads are also a good example of new media, as well as weather bug which constantly updates itself with changeing weather conditions and alerts. You simply enter in your address and weather bug keeps you informed with your local weather conditions and forcasts. The different days in the future that it gives the forcast for are examples of modules. The data is numerically represented as is everything on computers.

I will be in Ireland for fall break, so I don't really know how much I will get done on my rough draft for mon. I fly out from Ohare thursday at 6. Arrive in Ireland Friday morning. amazon.com allows you to jump to the bibliography of a book and pull up the footnotes or sources that were used in that book. This is a good reasearch tool which allows you to find the titles of many articles on a topic very quickly. Then you just have to search for the articles on the libraries website.

Some good fonts to use when designing a webpage are: georgia, arial, tahoma, because they are more readable than the times new roman which looks jumbled together.

I think that it is interesting to note that when designing a webpage, simplicity is favored by some people. There are some good reasons for this which include: ease of use, scanability, lower cost, and less time loading and designing. This is a point I have been trying to make in my assignment on style, but apparently this has nothing to do with style. But if your website is written in a way that is scannable, isn't that a kind of style? Sometimes more is less. As the section on simplicity in web design from scratch indicates sometimes less is more. Its not always about what you should add to a website, but often its what you should elliminate that is important.

What Barthe Means

Images are given captions to tell you what they want you to think the image means, but that does not make it truth. This is a cultural code of assumptions. They argue about the relationship between social power. Captioning images only represses possible meanings that the image may have had for someone. The meaning isn't in the image, its in the cultural codes that apply to the image.

The Rhetoric of the Image did not make very much sense to me. Whoever wrote it sure made it complicated. I mean who uses the word agglutination which means: clumping together, as of sperm, often due to infection, inflammation, or antibodies (google definition)? I understand the part about photographs which states that they are objective recordings, but much of the rest of the text didn't make much sense. Is the author saying that all images need a caption to explain what the image is supposed to mean to the viewer? I don't really know, its over my head.

This includes cell phones, computers, radio, pagers, and other technology. All of these examples are user interfaces. Interfaces are very important for todays economy and society. Where would we be without this technology?

My computer just came in the mail today, so you folks can expect to hear much more from me in this second half of the semester.

A year or so ago, a great movie came out called Fahrenheit 9/11. It may not have been completely true, but if you have seen it, you know much of it is true. Then the Right wing conservatives had to respond to the film with their point of view (cover up/distortion). They named it Fahrenhype 911. Isn't this kind of close to infringement of copyrights?

Everyone in this class knows about the human verification security pop ups for certain websites. If you don't know what I'm talking about, its those security devices that try to prevent spammers on blogger. The very idea is excellent, because it aims to save us the time and wasted interest in spam comments on our blogs. But I also see a negative side to these precautions.

Spammers will not be the only ones kept out of some of these sites. People with color-blindness will definitely be put under an inconvienence as well as further straining the learning impaired people and the blind. These possibly annoying security devices can also waste the average computer user's time. For example when I signed up for my digg acount, I had to pass one of these security tests, but this test required me to retype four words, as opposed to the one word neccessary in blogger. I can see this getting out of hand in the future.

I hope someone comes up with a more accessable and faster alternative. Technology should never slow us down. It should make usage more convienient and accessable.

It seems like hardly any websites are fully accessable to everyone. Some websites are out of date, others are carelessly made. Perhaps companies need to make products for those of us with disabilities cheaper. We all know that its difficult for a blind person to earn a living. Why in the world should they have to pay thousands of dollars just to use a computer? I think that when the products that people with disablities use become cheaper, websites will start to see the importance of making their content more accessable to everyone.
Websites that are currently catering to the needs of disabled people have already done this very effectively. Check out this site...http://www.infogrip.com/ . It has a search area, links that change color when the mouse is over them, for example. The site is very user friendly.

Accessability is important because the more people that can access a website the better. If your selling a product or trying to express an idea, the more people that can access your website the more likely you will be successful in your goal. People with disabilities have enough problems without having to worry about difficulties in using websites. It is not very difficult to make your website accessable to everyone so take the extra time it will be worth it.

To whom it may concern.

During this week riots in Belfast Ireland have been breaking out. The perpetraters are protestant thugs. Members of para-military protestant groups are in an all out war with the police because they think that they are being screwed over by the government. Throughout the week over fifty police have been wounded by beatings,explosions, machine gun fire, ect.

I know that in the past when riots or uprisings broke out in Ireland, the British Military was immediately called to end the chaos by whatever means neccessary. Political and religous meetings (of Catholics) have been dispersed with absolute force, by the British Army many times in the past. It is no coincidence that they are not doing anything to stop the current "problem". Why should Britain care if Irish Catholics are:

beaten up
spit upon
killed
robbed
hit with rocks
burned
displaced
stabbed

On the other hand if the tables were turned and the Irish Catholics (the minorty in Northern Ireland) were rioting, you can bet the British army would be gunning them down within a few hours, as history has proven. But this is not the case, therefore not much is being done to quell the violence. It really makes me angry. I look forward to seeing a response from someone, anyone....

Hello fellow Bloggers!!!

In this blog I will show you a style that is not very pleasing to the reader.

It is very easy to distract a reader with the font:
1)Size
2)Color
3)Font
4)Bold/Italic

Paragraphs are not very web-friendly, which is good for me because I don't like writing long paragraphs. As you will see throughout the semester my paragraphs are mostly straight to the point. I don't see the point in wasting people's time with unneccessary examples and simple facts. At least I have that going for me.

Sorry about the annoying example's but I hope you got the point.

Today I investigated a rock-climbing club. I decided not to join because it would be too time consuming. I found out the times that I can free-climb a rock climbing wall for about $5 an hour. I think it will be much more convienient going that route considering I will be graduating this semester.
